1. Scorching (premature cure) Compound cures in the mixer or barrel before shaping. Prevent with proper accelerator choice, controlled mix temperature (<120–140 °C) and stored compound used within its shelf life.

2. Ozone / weather cracking Surface cracks from ozone, especially on stretched NR and SBR. Use EPDM or CR for outdoor duty, add antiozonants, and avoid permanent tensile stress in design.

3. Swelling in oil NR, SBR and EPDM swell badly in mineral oil. For oil or fuel contact specify NBR (or FKM for extremes).

4. Compression set A seal that no longer springs back leaks. Choose the right hardness and cure state, and confirm compression-set data at your service temperature.

5. Blooming / surface exudation Additives migrate to the surface (chalky or oily film). Usually a formulation balance issue — adjust dosage or switch additive type.
