The EU label
Since 2012 the EU label is mandatory: rolling resistance (fuel use), wet grip (safety) and noise. The three conflict — compounding is the art of finding the balance.
Silica + silane
Highly dispersible precipitated silica with a silane coupling agent (Si-69 / Si-75 / liquid silanes) lowers tanδ at 60 °C (low rolling resistance) while keeping tanδ high near 0 °C (wet grip). This is the mainstream green-tyre route.
Functionalised polymers & resins
End-modified SSBR/BR improves silica compatibility; tackifying resins, homogenisers and dispersing aids fight silica agglomeration and Mooney rise.
Other key additives
6PPD plus microcrystalline wax for ozone protection; insoluble sulphur to prevent blooming; cobalt salts for steel-cord adhesion; RFL/resorcinol systems for cord compounds.
Buying note
Tyre plants run continuous high-volume lines — verify supply stability, batch-to-batch consistency and whether PPAP/IMDS documentation is available.
