Sourcing moulded bagasse tableware: the specification checklist

Bagasse tableware is moulded from sugarcane fibre, a by-product of sugar refining, and is widely exported as an alternative to plastic and foam foodservice packaging. When comparing quotes, specify the format (clamshell, plate, bowl, tray), dimensions and compartment count, the lid or overwrap that goes with it, carton quantity and whether embossed logos are required. Ask about hot and cold service limits, grease resistance, and any coating or barrier used, since that changes both performance and the documentation needed. Confirm the food-contact documentation for the grade and the labelling rules in the destination market before a full production run.
