Pretreatment

Desizing agents, scouring agents, wetting/penetrating agents, peroxide stabilisers, chelating dispersants — remove size, oils and impurities for uniform absorbency and whiteness.

Dyeing

Levelling agents, dispersants, sequestrants, fixing agents, reduction-clearing and soaping agents. Reactive dyeing consumes salt/soda; low-temperature soaping agents cut rinse cycles.

Printing

Thickeners (alginate / synthetic), binders, crosslinkers, emulsion pastes. Hand feel vs. fastness in pigment printing is mostly a binder/crosslinker ratio question.

Finishing

Softeners (cationic / silicone / amino silicone), antistatic agents, flame retardants, water & oil repellents (moving from C8 to C6 or fluorine-free), antimicrobial and soil-release finishes.

Compliance

Brands usually require ZDHC MRSL conformance, OEKO-TEX Standard 100 and the absence of APEO, PFOS/PFOA and azo dyes. Always request MRSL statements and third-party test reports.
