Hardness — Shore A Measured with a durometer per **ISO 7619** or **ASTM D2240**. Most compounds fall in **30–90 Shore A**; harder grades use Shore D above ~95 Shore A. Caution: a 70-Shore-A NBR and a 70-Shore-A EPDM feel identical under the durometer but behave completely differently in oil.

Tensile strength & elongation Typical tensile strength runs about **7–25 MPa** and elongation at break **200–600%**. These numbers mean nothing without the test temperature and standard in the header — always read those first.

Compression set The permanent deformation left after compressing a part for a set time at temperature. Lower is better for seals and gaskets; **15–30%** is a common target range, but the spec depends on the application.

Ozone, heat & fluid resistance Rated by exposing samples to specified media and measuring swell or property loss. Use these ratings — not the base polymer name alone — to judge fitness for your fluid and weather.
