The two categories look similar in a catalogue and are engineered very differently. Specifying them correctly avoids the most expensive kind of import error: a container that arrives and cannot be sold.

TBR (truck and bus radial)

All-steel construction, high ply ratings, designed for retreading and for high load at sustained speed. Key fields: size (for example 12R22.5), ply rating, load index and speed symbol, tread pattern and application (steer, drive, trailer), and whether the casing is retreadable.

PCR (passenger car radial)

Semi-steel construction with textile carcass and steel belts, optimised for comfort, rolling resistance and wet grip. Key fields: section width, aspect ratio, rim diameter (for example 205/55R16), load index, speed rating, and season or application category.

What to include in an inquiry

• •Full size designation exactly as it appears on the sidewall.
• •Load index and speed symbol, not just "the same as before".
• •Intended axle or application position.
• •Market approvals required in the destination country.
• •Whether retreadability matters for your business model.
• •Quantity per size and whether you can accept a mixed container.

Common causes of dispute

Speed rating and load index substituted with a lower value, tread depth below expectation, and pattern substituted with a visually similar but different compound.
