Industrial composting vs home composting: why the distinction changes your packaging spec
Most certified compostable packaging is certified for industrial facilities, where piles are held at sustained high temperatures.
Most certified compostable packaging is certified for industrial facilities, where piles are held at sustained high temperatures. A backyard heap rarely reaches those conditions, and separate marks exist for home composting but far fewer products qualify. For a buyer this affects two things: the claim you can make on the finished pack, and whether the item has a realistic disposal route in the market you sell into. Specify which route you need before requesting quotes, and ask for documentation for that route rather than a general statement.
